On 6th February, 1915, the 1st Royal Welsh Fusiliers battalion of 22 Brigade, 7th Division moved into the trenches at Touquet in Belgium, just over the border from Armentières and on 10th February moved back into reserve at La Houlette. William Griffin died from wounds on either 11th February, 1915, according to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission or 8th February if the Graves Registration Report Form is correct. Either way it is likely that he was wounded during this period in the front line.
